One of the best shows on TV right now is Being Erica. Through an interesting type of therapy, Erica goes back in time to try and undue her past. It always turns out the same way, but her understanding of it grows and expands who she is.
Over the last couple of shows, I have had a violent reaction to Erica’s boyfriend. It must be rather funny to see me yelling at the TV to Erica about why is she taking his advice. His advice is always tainted with what is “supposed to be done” and “the logical thing to do.”
So me being me, this got me thinking. Is my reaction so violent because I am not following my heart in a part of my life? Our schooling has taught us not to follow our heart, and yet we are surrounded in literature about how important it is to follow your heart. So the question is, are you letting others change your mind for you?
Here’s the exercise: over the next couple of days notice when your heart is telling you one thing and you are acting in a different way. I suggest that you pause and ask the Universe, as well as your Soul, why it is important that you listen and act on your heart.
One last question. Ask your Soul something that comes right out of Being Erica: “How can you be true to yourself in your current situation?”
Most of us need permission to act on our heart, so ask yourself for the permission you are seeking.
