Expeditions in Faith — Freeing* My* Voice*

So a couple of weeks ago, I did something very brave. Let me set the scene: Saturday afternoon and I’m taking a group class with my singing teacher. This class is filled with professional singers. Meaning these individuals sing in front of people on a regular basis. This class is filled with individuals that naturally open up their mouths and sing like angels.

Why was this brave? For a couple of reasons. I’m terrified to sing in front of anyone. I actually shake. All my life I have been told not to sing, yes, told not to sing because it was that bad.

When I had my first singing lesson, I discovered several things (which I did not believe at first). I have a wide range, and I can hit the notes. I don’t have a horrible voice, and I believed the hype.

So here I am in this class full of professional singers. We are doing the exercises to warm up. They’re exercises that I just can’t do. I can’t roll my tongue. I can’t snort. Again, this is because I’m still unlocking my voice.

So it comes to the part that I’m dreading, getting up on that stage and singing. LIVE in front of everyone! Aloud. Not in the bathroom (where everyone sounds great). So Lorraine asks who wants to go first and I volunteer. Why, you might ask? Because I know the one unlimited resource that I always have is courage. I have nerve to move through anything. This is why people select me as a guide on their journey, this fearlessness.

So I get up there, and I won’t use the microphone. I can’t look at that thing without wanting to throw up. God does what God does and when I hook up my iPhone to play the music, it turns into a microphone.

And I sing. I shake. I hit some really good notes, and I hit some bad ones. But when I let go, truly let go, I have a sense of how my voice feels when it is free.

I’m done and trying to hold back the tears. I turn to Lorraine and she is crying. She is crying because she knows how hard this is for me. Because she knows what it means for my voice to be free. She knows and holds for me that space of what I’m capable of when my voice will let go and I will just sing.

I know that this is where my personal work is, freeing my voice. I connect each day, do my personal growth work and take action, but I cannot outsmart myself in this arena.

I’m sharing this very personal story with you because I want to know where are you holding back your own truth and your own voice?

Every day, I sit down with my Soul via my Soul Language Team and I ask the same question, “Why am I here?” And each day that answer gets deeper and deeper. After this experience, I heard this statement:

Help people remember and realize their true self through connection and trust. I know if I’m here to give people that opportunity than I’m also here to experience that fully and completely for myself.

There’s no exercise this month (the newsletters will be once a month now). I leave you with these questions:

  • Who are you and how to you want to express that to the world?
  • Do you need support to help you understand, accept and be your true self?
  • Do you feel connected to the Divine? Do you trust yourself and the Divine?

I have been supporting a client to understand and take action on her truth and her purpose. She shared with me how she felt so on purpose and light. I had that experience of Lorraine, of deep happiness and excitement for this individual, knowing that another light just lit up a lot brighter.

I invite you to connect with me and have a conversation to see if we are a fit for each other. I’m so grateful for my work with Lorraine (we have laughed, cried, and I have resisted), and I don’t think I could ever go back to only singing in my bathroom.
